This is a great product, I love it. And by the way, if you remember, they tested one of the new external hard drives that has both usb2 and firewire on it, and found that firewire is the faster of the two medium, theory means nothing.

Apple iPod 40GB Review

As the fourth generation Apple's MP3 player, iPod 40GB sports a click-wheel navigation; 12-hour battery life; and dual FireWire 400 and Hi-Speed USB interface support plus battery re-charging. But missing are a remote and belt clip. It doesn't matter anyway since Apple discontinued this model in favor of the 30GB photo and 60GB photo, both of which have 65k color LCD.

The player against which all others are judged, despite limited features compared with those of newcomers and a high price.

Slim, attractive player. Excellent ergonomics. Wired remote. Solid audio performance.
Cons:
No FM or recording. Expensive

Review

Pros: The extra playback hours are definitely a good thing - I'm finding that I probably get around 10 hours of audio playback with my 4 month old 5G.

Cons: The video is still 65K colours- I doubt the new version albeit brighter is going to get close to the Creative Vision:M with its 256K colours (amazing screen quality compared to ipod - it really makes a big difference - the ipod looks washed out and lifeless).

ipod Nano Phatty

Specifications

That really sketchy looking photo of the iPod nano "phatty" from yesterday? Yeah, you can officially file that under deceptively sketchy looking -- Apple's legal team called demanding we take the shot down, claiming ownership of the photo, and that it was "stolen" from the company. Ooook. Granted, Apple doesn't send takedowns to all confirmed-true leaks -- take the new aluminum Mac keyboard, for example. Apple never gave us a hard time when we broke that story. Still, Apple's legal team wouldn't be wasting its or our time if they didn't feel there was something to lose by inaction, so until further notice we're considering this the real deal. Just in case you missed it the first time, we pulled together a quick mockup of the newer, fatter nano. See? You really weren't missing anything. Expect 'em out in the next couple of months, says we.

The good:
- New scratch-resistant aluminum body
- Available in a variety of bright and shiny colours
- Still superslender but more durable, thanks to seamless construction
- Supports photos (with thumbnail grid) and album art
- Great sound quality
The bad:
- Still doesn't play video, not that you'd want to watch it on the small screen
- No built-in FM tuner or recording capability
- Not all colour options are available for all memory sizes
